The J-880SP arrived today. It's on it's way to Capitol Tuba Conference at Ft Meyer with a stop at the Eastman School of Music. Along with the J-700, TU2, EU2 and I-800ST, I will be off to Texas Jan 10-18.
Richard Barth is Director of the Brass Division at Gemstone Musical Instruments. An industry veteran of 34 years, Barth taught at the Naval School of Music Army Element and several colleges before going into music retail. He then worked as a District Sales Representative for a large manufacturer, primarily in the Midwest.
“In a former life I was a tubist. I got my masters at Northwestern studying with Arnold Jacobs and playing in the Chicago Civic. Returning home to Cleveland I had the good fortune to play as an extra with many great organizations including the Cleveland Orchestra, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and others. I quit playing due to what is often called ‘Focal Dystonia’ but am fortunate to bring a player’s perspective to my work at Gemstone Musical.
It was a natural connection for me to bring together Gemstone Musical and Walter Nirschl, builder of the finest copy of Arnold Jacob’s famous tuba. Walter Nirschl is based in Geretsried, Germany and comes from a family with a rich tradition of musical instrument building. Said Walter, “I am pleased to be associating with Gemstone. Their strong sales and marketing compliments the products we are introducing.”
